I could have easily bought another Vbox, but when I saw the HD Homerun on Ebay for cheaper than a new Vbox, I bought it. Most of the time I am watching just one sport at the time, so the above set up is fine, but on some occasions I have set up two streams and watched two sports at the same some. Basically, the Foxtel box modulated RF input uses one tuner inside the Vbox, and you can't get to use the other tuner because the Foxtel box uses the satellite dish on the roof. Some of you may be asking, "Why did you buy the HD Homerun if you already have a Vbox?" The answer is, the above system uses a whole box to itself, hence, a quad tuner box used this way is a waste of money. The above system now works very well, and given my Slingbox was a HD Pro model, with the best I could get being Composite input cables (Red, Blue, Green) I now have a much better quality picture than I did on the slingbox. The Foxtel box is controlled by an RM 4 Mini, similar to what is shown in a Youtube clip posted by another member. So the Vbox thinks it's just getting a normal FTA TV antenna feed, when it's actually getting a Foxtel box feed that has been converted. The RF out of the modulator goes to the Vbox, and the Vbox is added to the Plex Media Server. So, I have the HDMI coming out of the Foxtel box going into the modulator, and a HDMI going out of the modulator going to the big screen TV. I was lucky enough to get a secondhand RF modulator to test my theory out. Where my set up differs from most is I want to watch my Foxtel box in the same way I did through the slingbox. I missed out on the last auction.īoth my Vbox and HD Homerun are dual tuners, not quad tuners, and this is fine. I had a look on Ebay recently and saw a secondhand HD Homerun for sale, and I was lucky enough to buy it. I am not keen on leaving my desktop running 24/7 so I will now look into adjusting the BIOS settings and test out WOL (wake on lan). I have no idea why.Īfter some testing, I bought a lifetime Plex Pass which was discounted due to Black Friday / Cyber Monday. The Raspberry Pi 4 worked fine on the local area network, but not outside of the network. I installed Plex Media Server on my Core I7 desktop, and the Vbox works great with Plex outside of the local area network on a 4G phone. I have had some success, and a stable work around, with good quality sound and picture, is near. If you made sure to login to your Slingbox account in the Windows app before the shutdown: does running the Windows app invoke your Sling Media account authentication behind the scenes every time your start up the app?.The Windows app only asks for your Slingbox account login on the first installation (or if somehow your Windows %APPDATA% metadata gets cleared). If you were really determined, you could run the Windows app and use that capture card + PC + OBS + MonaServer + IR blaster/Harmony solution in the YouTube video and my other posts)īut my assumptions may be faulty. (Are there any third party Chromecast mirroring options?)
